Hoosier Films is a regional, multi-platform distribution service featuring Indiana-based films and filmmakers. Based in Bloomington, Indiana, Hoosier Films was established to put more Indiana films in front of Indiana audiences. We support and promote filmmakers throughout the state with our online streaming platform, live screenings in local theaters and at special events, and an annual film festival. As a social enterprise, we’re committed to making an impact for the independent film community, and our net revenue share model ensures filmmakers are paid fairly for their creative work. Our 50/50 share on streaming is the best in the industry, and filmmakers also receive 80% of net sales on digital downloads, a higher return than any other platform.
Our History: Hoosier Films was founded in 2018 by two Indiana natives, husband and wife team Thomas DeCarlo and Meredith McGriff, who have spent their careers dedicated to film and the arts, respectively. The Hoosier Films streaming service launched in September 2019, less than a year after the company was established, and was closely followed by a mobile cinema pilot program throughout fall 2019. The Hoosier Films Annual Festival was originally scheduled for March 2020, but after postponing and pivoting to virtual due to the pandemic, it was held online September 3-6, 2020. The festival continued in a virtual format in 2021, and then the third (but first in-person!) festival was presented March 24-27, 2022 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington, Indiana.
As audiences begin to return to theaters in 2022, Hoosier Films is launching two new state-wide programs: Monthly Movie Nights at small regional theaters, and our Mobile Cinema, a tiny theater-on-wheels that will take Indiana films to special events around the state.
